Workplaces Against Violence in Employment
Offering effective solutions for workplace
bullying, harassment and occupational violence.
Violence at work includes
- Physical violence, assault.
- Workplace Bullying (also known as horizontal
violence, psychological violence, mobbing)
- Harassment (often used synonymously with bullying
but has some specific differences)
- Institutional bullying (where systems and practices
prevent justice and fairness)
Workplace violence consists of specific behaviours that create
hazards in the workplace.
How we can assist the employer
We provide;
- Effective solutions that address workplace bullying
and harassment. This includes programmes and long term strategies
that will enhance a positive culture and make bullying and harassment
extremely unlikely to occur.
- Troubleshooting, advice, coaching for specific
situations. We recognise that most failure to address bullying
and harassment effectively results from people who do not know
what to do and inadvertently play into the bully's strategy. We
provide specific support so you will recognise the tactics bullies
employ and be one step ahead of them at all times.
- Policy development. We recognise that policy is
a starting point not a solution. However policy creates the basis
for ongoing commitment and a poor policy leads to poor commitment.
- Clear complaints processes (informal and formal)
and organisational resources to resolve issues at an early stage.
We believe workplaces need an internal mediation capacity that
can be activated at an early stage. We also contend that direct
mediation is unsafe for most victims of bullying and harassment,
therefore ensuring a different intervention process for these
cases is crucial. See Internal
Mediation Groups (6 KB pdf).
- Empowering managers and supervisors with the tools
to stop bullying and create a bully intolerant environment. Most
bullying thrives in under soft or avoidant managers. Be the kind
of manager that protects staff and prevents bullying.
- Leadership development. Leaders don't bully -
they don't need to. Bullying is the antithesis to leadership.
Recognise the qualities all leaders have and develop the skills
and characteristics to inspire, motivate, manage and facilitate
others to achieve significant results.
- Equipping and maintaining Contact Persons. Contact
Persons are a catalyst for change and offer an accessible means
of support and information in the workplace. However they need
to be selected, trained, monitored and supported. We will help
you equip and get the best from your Contact Persons.
- We offer a variety of training packages and facilitation
for developing knowledge and skills. See workshops.
- We provide books that can be purchased online through this site (see left hand column) .
